After re-watching our preliminary task we have seen mistakes we have made. Something we have learnt is that we need to film a lot more in each take. The editing in out task is not as smooth as it should be at times, as there are jumps and some actions did not match. This is a valuable lesson for us to learn before the filming of the main task as other wise our film would not fit together smoothly damaging the effect we would be trying to create for a thriller and also so that we don’t have to re-shoot which would take away important time needed for editing.
Another lesson we have learnt is that we should always start with an empty frame to again make editing smoother and give us lots of film to work with. In the preliminary task the shot with the door used an empty frame to begin with an was effective however the next shot should also have used this and meant the editing was not as smooth because we didn’t do this.
We also have realized that filming many different angles for each shot would be a lot more beneficial as some shots in the preliminary task would have worked a lot better in a different angle which we realized during edit, but we had no other angles to work with. By doing this in our main task we would make editing easier and also have many different angles to work with if an angle we thought would fit did not fit in edit. This will be a valuable technique especially as we are making a thriller, in which it is important to keep suspense and tension and also keep the audience engaged.
I am not as happy with the preliminary task as I would have wanted, however it has taught us many lessons and given us pointers to make the main task great.
