Dureshewar Mauwoz Evaluation part 2

Addition to question 6... another problem from technology is uploading things and it doesn't happen when you want it to. This is a great example, I tried uploading these two video before and it didn't let me and now i have uploaded these videos, they are not together on one post which is another problem. Also on YouTube it wouldn't let me upload the whole evaluation together so that is why there are two different videos for this.

Film Synopsis

The sequence/story of how the film continues from the shown death.
1. girl dies
2. 3 days earlier we see her walking out of work and stands outside waiting for something/someone.
3.A woman walks out of the office and says goodnight and walks down the road, a car pulls up, scarlet gets in.
4.Her best friend is driving the car, established through friendly dialogue. The friend is a typical stereotype of a near, glasses, skinny which provides comic relief.
5.They pull up outside a block of flats and get out the car discussing scarlet running for the marathon and jake (the best friend) teases her about it.
6.They go inside and the camera becomes point of view suggesting someone is watching them suggesting that person is the murderer.
7.The next day scarlet is shown getting ready to go out for a run leaving her ipod behind which shows the audience this isnt the day that she dies.
8. She jogs around and then sees a strange man staring at her from down the path.Scarlet stops and runs onto another path as the man has scared her.
9.It then cuts to scarlet leaving the woods and going back to her flat. She comes in and Jake tells here theres a message on the phone for her because he missed it. When she plays it, she can hear the sound of footsteps running, she look towards Jake and tension in built then Jake suddenly turns and laghs dismissing the call as competition for the marathon trying to freak her out. Scarlet doesnt look convinced .Scarlet goes to work and we see her walking towards her desk.
10.Days pass and its in the morning where the audience see's Scarlet get ready for her jog. she is wearing the clothes she wore when she got murdered which can suggest to the audience that this is the day that she gets murdered.
11. Jake figures out who the murderer is, which makes him the hero as most teenage films use (best friend as the hero). The audience with Jakes help find out that the murderer is infact a psychopath women .
--> This challenges a convention of a thriller because normally the murderer is a man.

Peer's review

Over the past week i showed our opening scene to a few of my friends and i asked for their opinion.
I got all positive feedback which i am really glad about because we all have worked very hard on making this perfect.

My friends really loved the music and the camera shots/angles. And they really got into the movie and they wanted to see/know what happens next. I am very happy that they got into it because that is what one of our aim was, to draw the audiece in, and i believe we have accomplished that.

Uploaded film and evaluation prep

Today as our film has been finished and is uploaded to Youtube, we have started to write our evaluations ready to give in on Friday, which is the final deadline. I am proud that our group has finished on time (thanks to the deadline mix up I think!) and we now have a good head start on evaluating. I have already started preparing my answers to questions and I think I might do a PowerPoint or a podcast to hand it in.

What we need to do

Now that our opening scene is complete, we now have one week to start and finish our evaluation!
I was looking through what we have to do, and I dont really want to do a podcast so i think i will do a presentation!

Mahida

AAAHHHH

Screaming!
In friday's lesson after composing our music we realized that we still needed to find the perfect scream! and for that Becky, Sarah and I went out to the school field and recorded each one of us scream until we found the perfect scream!
For the scream we used my scream, i had to do it a few times to get it to be exactly right!

Mahida

Deadline

We met the deadline!!! Wohoo!
On Friday it was our movie deadline, and when we showed it to sire, he loved it and was very pleased. On Friday's lesson we finished off composing our music, it didnt take us that long and once it was done, it sounded great!

All we have to do now is write up our evaluation which is due in next friday (25th March) . Its been a long few weeks and the process has been hard but i am proud of what we have achieved the input that i have had as well as editing the sequence, which i never thought i could do .

Dog Soldiers Analysis

The film opens on an establishing shot of a forest and a caption in the corner that reads ‘Scotland’ tells us the setting for the film. It then cross-dissolves to a long shot of man collecting water from a lake, this shot creates a picturesque and tells the audience that the character is very secluded, which due to the typical horror genre, suggests to the audience that the character is in danger. But calm opening to the film also lulls the audience into a false sense of security that the danger will arise later on in the film; this is used to make the scene where the werewolf attacks the man and the woman 2 minutes later more shocking. Another cross-dissolve is then used to show that this is the same man walking back to the camp set up in the woods with his girlfriend. In this scene it is made clear that this is a British film through the typical ‘British’ phrases used such as “big girl’s blouse” and expletives used such as “bloody”. These are typical of British film, as the British way of speaking is a main feature of conveying that a film is British. There are a series of medium close ups used, the couple are shown sitting close to each other with the camp fire flames rising between them, this foreshadows danger coming in the next minute, as fire often symbolizes danger. The girl hands the man a silver knife in a box, and the close-up used to show this tells the audience this is an important prop for later in the film. This then cuts to the couple kissing in the tent. Just as the audience begins to think that this is a love scene, the sound of the zip of the tent being pulled up slowly can be heard, the slow pace creates tension as to what could be outside and the camera zooming in on the zip creates suspense in the audience. The man and woman's scared breathing can also be heard to convey their fright to the audience. Creating tension and suspense is very important for a horror/thriller film, as the audience should feel scared and be kept on the edge of their seat. The girl’s foot is then grabbed quickly by an unknown hand. This is done to make the audience wonder what could have done this and draw them into the film as there is mystery surrounding this. The fact that there is no suspense music used suggests that it is done to shock the audience and not give them the feeling that something is coming, as the suspense music is a trait of the horror/thriller genre. The pace of the cuts speeds up dramatically and shots range from close-ups to high angle shots. This is used to show the struggle between the girl and what is pulling her out and also the man, as it is quick and almost hard to follow, which creates tension as the audience wonder if the girl will live. As it is the girl who is attacked it does conform to many horror/thriller films where the girl is the victim. Blood splatters, which shows the struggle is over as the girl has been wounded and the mystery creature has won. The girl is then dragged out of the tent quickly, this conveys the power of the creature, which tells the confirms the creatures power and status as the killer in the film. The silver knife is shown again in a close-up, which conveys to the audience a sense that they could have protected themselves and the hand slowly attempting to grab it shows the character's attempting to fight, which as the audience has seen the power of this mysterious creature they don't feel this is likely. The man is now sitting at the back of the tent is shown from a high angle with the camera looking down at him, this shows the audience he is vulnerable and powerless, also shown in the scared expression on his face which suggests that he is frozen from fright, he camera then closes in on him, suggesting that the camera's actions mimic that of the creatures and that it is coming for him to, this is also shown in the growling noises that can be heard. The growling that can be heard throughout this struggle drops hints to the audience that this killer is an animal and lets the audience decide what they think the animal is without explicitly showing it. There is then a shot of a full moon and howling can be heard this coupled with the growling and the deaths of both characters suggests to the audience that the creature is a werewolf, as the myth is that they transform during a full moon and are monsters that kill. For the target audience of this film it is likely they will get this reference, as they are likely to be horror fans, and this is common in werewolf films, to see a full moon and hear the wolf howl.
After this there is a cut to black and the title of the film is shown. The font used for this looks like the typical army writing, which suggests the main characters are in the army before the characters are even met which sets the tone for the characters, that they will most likely be men and will be tough. After this we see that the film has gone back to '2 hours earlier', this is a flashback from the action we have just seen, and tells the audience there is plot to unravel and mystery, this engages the audience, as they will be keen to unravel the mystery and find out what happened.
We have used a flashback in our film and hope it will have the same affect.

Sarah

Music

Today we carried on putting our music on to the film. So far I am really happy with it. We have used some fast paced running music to start with, to show her running and like it is her normal routine. When she stops to catch her breath the music quietens to show it as diegetic sound as if the audience is standing where the camera is and can her the music slightly from her headphones. After the twig sound is used I thought it would be better id it was silent as t shows Scarlet trying to listen out for anymore noises and the audience will at this point be listening with her as there is a hint towards some threat. We then used some tense running music to show Scarlets threat and create suspense for the audience. Tomorrow we just need to finish this off.

Sarah

MAKING OUR OWN MUSIC!

We were working on the music today and we couldn't find the perfect type that would fit in with the running scene when Scarlet is running for her life when she has a feeling something is behind her. Sarah was thinking of having some scary but tensed music and I couldn't find anything that had all that. So i decided to make my own music on Garage Band and Mahida liked. However, Sarah thought we were missing the foot steps of Scarlet when she's running.

If Sarah has time, she will try and record the sound of her foot steps and then we might use it in the sequence.

we were just told that we have more time until the deadline, we were about to have a panic attack but sir said our deadline is on the 18th march...YEAH we have few more days to finish!

BIG PROBLEM PEOPLE!!!!!!

there already is a film called THE LAST RUN! we need to come up with a different name because then it will be copyright. Can we go back to our list of names and choose another or try and come up with a different name please...

I will have a panic attack soon!!!!!!

Duresh x

What to do tomorrow?

For tomorrow, I have decided to complete the production logo and not do the final title because Becky knows how to do that and I don't want to create more work. When I am finished with the logo design I will start constructing the music as it is the next BIG thing. the voiceover is done, we just need to construct it all together and we will be done by the end of this week!!!!

Duresh x

Designing the LOGO!

I designed the logo for the production, we thought that it will look good if we have a logo. Also as seen in real films there are logos for each production company. We couldn't just get an image from GOOGLE of a red telephone box for the logo, we decided to design one ourselves.

On Apple there are no paint applications so I used iweb to make the design of the telephone boxes and it came out really well. The only problem I had was that the lines had to be really accurate and i didn't manage to finish it in time but all i need to do is add colour to the logo.

Duresh x

coming up with the name for the production

We realised that we would need a production team which would be used in our film. We had to think of a name of a production company that we could use. A production by...

we spent about 20 minutes coming up with the name which indicated Britishness as our opening sequence is to a low budget British film. Everyone kept on thinking about red telephone box because this created the typical British atmosphere and also red telephone boxes are extremely British.

Then I thought of the name...Redox and everyone agreed to it as it went well with our film theme which is mysterious thriller and it involves blood that is RED.

So now it's called A Redox Production, this will be used at the start of the opening sequence.

Duresh x

Exam poster

Exam is targeted at teenagers and young adults, you can see that from the poster because the characters look young and 22-28 years old. The way the characters are dressed reflects the audiences who might watch the film. The characters are dressed sophisticated which also indicates the exam conditions and quiet atmosphere. The close-up of the tied hands struggling hand with the blood on the shirt illustrates that the film is a thriller. The close-up of the 8 different characters faces which show mystery indicates that the film is mysterious and anything can happen.

Duresh x

The Last Run - its already a film

Today we were faced with an issue, there already is a film called 'The Last Run'. None of us knew this so it was quite a shock. Hopefully we wont have to change the name, but if we do then we will think of another name that relates to death and running just like 'The Last Run' does.

Becky

Finished Titles & Production Name

Today we finished creating the titles by using the titles on iMovie because we didnt want to ruin the quality of the opening sequence. However we did use LiveType for creating our Production name which we decided to call 'A Redox Production'. This wouldnt harm the quality of the film because it was on a black background.

We thought of 'Redox' by thinking of what comes to mind when you think of 'Britishness' and we said red, telephone boxes. I think Duresh was the one who combined those two to create 'Redox' which we all liked the name of. So 'A Redox Production' appears in red to represent Britishness and of course blood and horror.

'The Last Run' also appears in red to represent that the film will contain shots with 'blood' like images and to also represent that as a thriller blood has to be included.

Voice-Over recording

I have recorded 6 different versions of the voice-over. I showed them to Becky while we were working through lunch and we picked the one we thought was best (i had already picked this one as the one I liked the best and Becky agreed). I made sure to do many different versions just in case, and to make sure that the group had a say in which they thought was best.

Sarah

Titles

On Friday Becky and I worked during lunch and in our lesson to get the titles finished. At the end of lunch we had finished doing titles, but they were not at the standard myself or the group wanted. When the whole group worked on it during the lesson, we couldn't make the titles we didn't want go. It also made some of our clips duplicate. This was very frustrating as we had worked so hard on the film so far only for something to go wrong. We asked Mr Roberts to help and after about 15 minutes the clips were fixed but their were still some issues with the titles not deleting. Mr Roberts helped us to use LiveType. This programme has better fonts and styles for titles and we really liked the one we made, which used a red font with shadows behind it. However when it was put back into iMovie, the quality was bad and the picture looked foggy. We now have to decide whether the titles or the quality is more important in the end and we now have to try and sort the problems out during this week.

Sarah

Deadline Confusion

On Friday we had some confusion as to what day the deadline for the film was. It is actually next Friday. Although this made us panic and meant Becky and I worked through our lunch time, it actually was good as now we are ahead of schedule and have some time to make sure the title's and the music is completed.

What i've learnt...

Since starting on our project I have learnt a lot, For example my creative skills have developed a lot as i have learnt how to plan and research detail before work and this, in the long run, has a better turn out on the final work we do.

Mahida

Friday 11th

In lesson we where sorting out the titles. We had a problem because, at lunch Sarah and Becky done some titles that not everyone liked and we couldnt get rid of them. We got Mr. Robberts help through the lesson and it took us a whole lesson to get rid of them, during lesson Sir also showed us different ways to apply titles. He also told us about different programs we can use to get titles onto our opening scene.
So next lesson we will be starting on the titles again, but this time we will be using different programs.

Mahida

What we have left to do:

Last night i was thinking of everything we still have left to do, and which we need to do all with in the coming week! These things are as follow:
  • Finish off the titles
  • Do voice-over (the most important thing of all)
  • Finish off the music
  • Add the music to our opening movie scene
  • And finally, turn the presentation of the opening scene into a letter box

Mahida

Deadline confussion

So yesterday we got to lesson and we were panickig because we thought the deadline was the 11th March, we had a confusion, and during lesson we found out that we still have a whole week left! Thank god because we actually still have quite a bit left to do! And so in yesterdays lesson we started on the titles, where to place them, what they should look like and how many titles we should have over-all.

Mahida

Friday 11 March 2011

Creating Titles

Our lesson today was a bit caotic because we all had ideas and we felt a bit stressed because we thought the due date was today, when in fact its due in for next week.Anyway in todays lesson our teacher helped us with the titles and showed us how to use LiveType and how there are different styles of fonts which can make the titles seem more interesting than just plain white. There was a difference in quality of the film when we added a title from LiveType which can be seen as an issue. Towards the end of the lesson we were debating on whether or not to add in the special style of the titles because we would rather have the film in good quality than better looking titles. If the quality of the film stays the same with the special effects of the titles then we will use it but if not then we will stick to the normal plain white titles.

Becky, Mahida, Sarah and Duresh

Lunchtime session

Today as we thought it was the deadline for the opening sequence to be finished, me and Sarah went up at lunchtime to see if we could start creating the titles. It went well because we had an idea of where the titles would appear and the style we might use for them. The downside of creating the titles was that iMovies kept dublicating the clips over and over which meant that half of the lunch hour we spent was deleting all the duplicates scenes and figuring out when to stop so we don't delete a clip that was perfectly edited.
We now know that the final edit of our opening sequence is due in for next friday, giving us more time to  add the music, do the final touches to the titles and adding the voiceover which will occur to the end of the opening sequence.

Research on the BFI

BFI
The British film Institute (or BFI as it is also known) was founded in 1933. It aims to promote “understanding and appreciation of film and television heritage and culture”.
They have many activities such as cinemas; one of the most well known is the BFI Southbank (London) and also owns the IMAX Theater, which has one of the biggest screens in the UK. The BFI also runs the annual London Film Festival, which is the largest UK public film event. To support the teaching of film and media studies in schools the BFI also provides a range of education initiatives in print and online.
The BFI also releases films in cinemas across the UK, bringing classic titles to a new generation of film-lovers. An example of this which is being advertised at the moment is ‘The Disney 50’, which is screening all 50 of Disney’s animated films in their cinema’s, to celebrate the release of Disney’s 50th animated film release. The BFI has the most significant and rich collection of film and television in the world.
The BFI has recently taken over the funding role of the UK Film Council, after it has been cut from the governments spending budget. The role of distributing lottery money to film-makers has been taken by the BFI. At this time Amanda Nevill is the director of the BFI.

Deadline Tommorow

As the film is due in tommorow I am slightly worried we won't be able to complete the film to the best of our ability in the time we have left. We have all worked hard on the film and it is important to us. I don't think we have too much left to finish and we have tried to stick to our deadlines. I made sure I was thinking realistic when considering time and I think this has helped to keep us on schedule, so we don't have too much left to do tommorow, but as the film is really important to me I can't help but be apprehensive we won't get it done. We will all work very hard tommorow to make sure it is finished.

Limited time left

we have 2 days left till the film has to be complete and handed in. I think we are on time however due to tomorrow being academic mentoring day and us loosing 3 hours of media, that will put pressure on us on Friday when we have a lunch hour, 1hour media lesson and then hopefully after school to get it all complete to the best of our ability. All we have left to do is add in the titles which i don't think will take that long, add in the voice over which as well wont take that long and create the music which i think will be the most difficult and most time consuming because we have to make a final decision of what music we want and where it will be placed and how the music will flow through the sequence.
We are determined to finish it and make it the best that we possibly can.

Sound making with the twigs...

Today we decided to record the sounds of the twigs breaking which meant me and Mahida had to go outside on the tennis court to find some twigs and record them breaking. We recorded about 10- 15 breaking twigs just to make sure that we have more than one sound. We will use the sound that works well with the opening sequence. During the twig breaking I also hurt myself trying to break a thicker twig because I thought the thicker the twig is, the louder the sound will be.

Overall, the sound of the twig breaking went quite well and we have now chosen our best twig making shot.

Tormented Poster

A poster needs to represent the film in a good way in order to attract the right audience to see the film and to show them whcich genre the film is.
The film Tormented is aimed at a teenage to young adult audience. This is clear as in the poster the characters are obviously in high school as they are wearing school uniform. The colour scheme used of red, black and white suggests the film is a horror film as these colours are typically used, as the colour black suggests dark themes and the colour red represents blood of the victims in the films. The horror genre is also shown through the line "a new class of terror" which makes it clear that the film is scary. The poses of the characters also suggest the film is a horror film as the poses look like a pile of bodies as they are lying down which suggests they are the victims.

Sarah

What the film should be called?

As everyone knows its hard to come up with  a name for a film. Its easier to figure out the name once you have come up with the storyline of the film. I came up with the name 'The Last Run' because the opening sequence is of the girl running and ends up dead, which illustrates her 'last run'. I told the rest of the group the name and they liked it so i felt happy to have come up with the name because its not as easy as it seems. There were other alternatives such as 'Run', 'The Run', 'Her Run' , but they didn't seem as catchy and have a sense of suspense when saying it, like 'The Last Run' does.
So the name of the Film is 'The Last Run'.

'Shaun Of The Dead' Opening Sequence Analysis

The film is a horror so i decided to analysis the opening sequence to have a feel about how a horror could start.
There is a sound bridge at the beginning where we the audience see the universal and studio canel logo. This grabs the viewers attention because even though the visual of the film hasn't started, the music shows that its about to start. It also sets the tone/mood of the film i.e dark music suggests that something will happen at the beginning. After this, the film starts by Shaun being in the middle of the screen in a mid-shot to suggest that he is the main character. From this the camera moves further from Shaun to show a bigger image of the location which is a pub. This suggests that this is the place where everyone hangs out.
The camera moves with Shaun and the girl when they look at Ed to make it seem as thought the audience are in the movie. This engages the audience because they feel that they are apart of  it and want to see why the camera is moving and wanting us as the audience to see. There is a wide mid-shot of the girl,Shaun and Ed. They are framed within the camera with the 'rule of 3' which means that within each third of the screen one of the characters are in it. This can be so that there is no empty space and the audience should focus on them 3. I think that Ed is in the middle to suggest that he is causing trouble between Shaun and his girlfriend.
Ed is in tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt and playing a gambling machine to suggest that he doesn't have a lot of money to splurge on clothes and that he isn't self conscious of what he wears and how he looks. In contrast Shaun is in a nice shirt and tie which can represent that he is able to dress up when going out maybe because he has a job and is able to make a living.
The shot reverse shot of Shaun and his girlfriend having a conversation makes it more realistic and creates an effect on the audience, as if there are there in the pub. The quick shots of Ed, his girlfriend and her 2 friends saying his name can suggest that he is being pestered, he himself is being annoying, they care for him or they want him to realise something.
The montage of the different characters at work suggests that as they are acting and look like zombies, which can suggest that something zombie like will happen. In my opinion this is what i think attracts the audience even more because they might be thinking 'okay whats going on here? i have to continue watching to see what happens.'
Shaun says 'things will change' which i think implicates that the main plot of the film is coming up. This line can therefore get the audience to think of what might change and how, because from this, it leads to the next scene.
The titles for the film is what appears next. 'Shaun Of The Dead' appears on the road as 'zombies' walk along that road to suggest that what Shaun said about things changing, is happening right now.
This then makes a transition to the next shot which is a pan shot of the camera moving up to show Shaun. Whats effective about this is that the noise that Shaun makes and the way that he walks seems zombie like which can suggest that he has turned into a zombie, when in actual fact, he has just woken up.This in my opinion creates humour.
A wide shot of Shaun & Ed's  messy living room is shown to represent them as typical men i.e. lazy and untidy.
The sound of shooting coming from the video game that Ed is playing suggests that shooting might happen within the movie as well as representing boys love for video games.
The quick montage shots of the flushing toilet, Shaun brushing his teeth and washing his hands can suggest the rush he is in to get to work, also suggesting that he takes his job seriously because he doesn't want to end up like Ed. Him not wanting to end up like Ed is also shown by the close up of his name badge to suggest that he does care about work and wants to be seen as someone that is able to make a living for himself. This, as stated previously shows a contract is characters, which can be seen as interesting for the audience because they might like want to know how people with different personalities get along.

That was my analysis of the opening sequence to 'Shaun Of The Dead'

Re-Shooting

So on Friday we went back to our location to do some reshooting. We managd to get everything done, but we did have a few techniqual hitches. We thought the camera was charged, but after reshooting 3 scenes, the camera died on us! So we went back to Sarah's house and we waited for it to get charged, we didnt have to wait for it to be charged fully because we only needed to shoot one more clip. After it was charged for a little while we went back and done the final reshooting. Now we are just hoping that we dont need to re shoot anymore! We now have to finish off editing and composing the music, once all that is done, we can add our titles and we will be done!

Music

Yesterday we used a programe called Garage Bands to begin looking for the music we want to use in our film. We have picked out a few favirotes so far and it is just a case of finding the right sound that matches the mood we are trying to create. I know the kind of sound I want and it is just a case of finding it and making sure it fits the film.

Acting in the film

Overall acting in the film has been fun. Our organisation was good on the days we filmed which really helped and although it was difficult for us to work out how to get the best shot by working together we have produced some good work. Acting in the film was a big pressure for me and I really wanted to do well, especially as I was the only actor in the film. In some cases it was difficult as none of us had ever done anything like this making sure we all knew what to do was a challenge, especially as it is crusial for all of us especially me as the actor to know exactly what we were doing but I think we have learnt from this about our communication skills and also about working in a group. Although we had some trouble with schedules most of these things that were out of our control I think we have worked really hard as a group and worked through any issues we had well. The only part I didn't enjoy was having sticky fake blood on my face and hands!

Filming the re-shoots

We filmed the re-shoots today and have got the shots we needed. First we filmed the opening sequence shots and then moved on to the shots of the feet running. As we were filming we suddenly realised that the camera was running out of battery, so we shot until the camera turned itself off and then went back to my house which was 2 minutes away to charge it. It was unfortunate but there was nothing we could have done as we had only gotten the camera today too. Also as the sun was out in the shots today and it was not as sunny on previous days we have filmed. We are hoping this will not affect the quality of the film or that the lighting will look too different. But we have got shots we needed and we in good time. We now just have to edit these next week.

Re-shooting scenes: What we are going to shoot

These are the scenes we are planning on shooting/ re-shooting tomorrow:
  1. Close up of putting in headphones (to replace previous shots in opening sequence)
  2. Stretch shot and running into the wood (to make the edit smoother)
  3. High angle shot (as it didn't look the way we wanted it to)
  4. When she stops running and hears noises (need to see a shocked reactions)
  5. Another shot of running feet, low angle (we didn't have enough shots of this and need one more)
  6. POV shot gets closer and she turns and screams (when watching it we were not sure it was clear enough that she is attacked)
Hopefully by shooting these scenes we can improve our film.

Watching the Film

Today we watched the film which we had edited. After watching it we all had an input on where certain scenes should be placed and what order and making sure the editing flowed well. Overall I am very pleased with the finished product and I think it has all come together well. However some re-shoots were needed as in some cases it just didn't flow well, such as the opening scene, which we have planned what footage we want to replace it with and we also have booked out a camera for tomorrow (Friday) so we can shoot can shoot it tomorrow.

Editing Day 2

Today in our lesson most of the computers were taken up so we decided not to edit. So at lunchtime i decided to go and edit some of the footage that wasn't worth keeping or footage that went wrong. During this time i made a list of some of the footage that we need to re-shoot. Sarah came along at the beginning with me and started me off and then i carried on since my role is the main editor. Tomorrow both myself and Duresh will edit some more since we are the ones that are familiar with iMovie because as previously stated we want to complete the editing of the first cut of the sequence complete this week so we have all of next week to spend adding, deleting clips from both groups of footage.

Planning reshoots & Editing days

This week except Friday we will be editing the footage we have and then what we need to re-shoot we will do on Friday and Saturday which means that we have to know what we need to film and how many different angles so we have a variety of shots to choose from when we do the final edit next week. Due to how organised we are, we feel that the more time we spend editing, the less stressed we will be next week so for most of our free lessons, lunch and break we will try and edit something, even if its 1 clip, at least its something.

Editing Day 1

Today was the first day of editing. We uploaded all the footage onto iMac and imported it into iMovie. As it was the first day and we didn't have much time we watched the footage and put the clips in order of the sequence. As Only 2 of the group members knew how to work iMovie (Becky &Duresh) they were the ones who sat down and edited. Sarah and Mahida were there to help and give any advice on when to edit, delete so they had an input into the creation of the final sequence.

About the use of blood

Looking at the final outcome of the sequence and the pics Becky has taken, i am so pleased with the make-up i did on Sarah. Some of cuts looked really real. I am also pleased with the overall look of the scene and how the make- up had a great impact on the situation.

Day 3: filming (LAST DAY)

Today was our last day of filming and we were very pleased with this. There was positive and negative points for today:
Negative- were that due to the rain on Wednesday, it was extremely muddy this made it hard for us to record in certain places. For point of view running scene it was hard for Sarah and Mahida to run in the mud. For that particular scene it took us approx. 20-30 mins.
There were many positive points for today- even with finding the perfect location that wasn't muddy,we finished our recording on time.
Particularly for me, i was extremely excited for the death scene. So that i can apply make-up on Sarah (the blood and everything)

Filming Day Cancelled

Today we were planning on filming more for the opening sequence. However due to the weather we couldnt because it would affect the lighting and show that we didnt think about the lighting and weather which we should do. Although we have lost  a day of filming, we are going to have a whole day of filming so that we know that we have filmed everything. Hopefully everything will go to plan and we will be on schedule so we have more time editing to make sure it is a piece of continuety editing (no jump shots) which shows off our editing skills .

where to put the blood?

I took these pics so I can work out where to put blood on Scarlet but I've realized that in this pic her head is tilted too much. So I have decided to change some things but this is the basic outline of the position. And also I wasn't sure that if is looked effective if Scarlet's eyes were opened.
For this pic, I changed my mind about Scarlet opening her eyes but I'm still not sure because if SOMETHING has killed her terrifically and her eyes are opened it conotates that she died a horrific death. I think she should have a scar on her left hand side on top of the eye brow, a bruise on the right hand side on the head. Her left ear ripped along the side, her right side of the lip thorn and the blood dripping on the side of her head and creating a puddle of blood on the floor. Also Scarlet is not wearing any pendant because I was thinking she could have nail marks on the front of her neck.

I wasn't thinking of this position is particular but this is just the basic outline of how she might be, with one shoe on and the other beside her. However, I do know the positions may change on the day but not massively.

PROBLEMS WITH MAKING BLOOD!

I am having problems with making the blood which will be used on Scarlet (Sarah). I have tried using different types of ingredients to make the perfect solution but I'm still making difficulties with removing it afterwards. I don't want to create the solution, use it on Sarah and after the recording is over, realize that I can't remove it.

I will need to use another ingredient to make it PERFECT!

FILM- DAY 2

The second day of filming also went well but there were some things to consider about before starting to record. Such as, the angles we're going to use changed because of the lighting, we couldn't use the shot we planned because the lighting would create problems. Also there was a car in the way that we needed to consider because the car wasn't part of the scene and the road was near and cars kept passing by which also created a problem due to the sound effects in the background.

However, overall we worked out our angles and the positioning of the camera and everything that we planned to record was done. Now we have completed half of our film sequence which is a huge satisfaction, we have also planned what we will be doing for the next recording day.

The pictures taken by Becky for the backstage shows how much time we spent thinking about our angles and the positioning of everything. The pictures also show how much fun we had doing the recording.

P.S. this time do not forget GLOVES... it's cold there!
